Specimen Requirements


Specimen

Three slides of 4- or 5-micron FFPE sections with tumor. Blood or paraffin block (acceptable at an additional charge).


Volume

Three slides of 4- or 5-micron thick with tumor or 10 mL blood (adult), 5 mL blood (pediatric)


Minimum Volume

Two slides of 4- or 5-micron thick with tumor or 5 mL blood (adult), 1 mL blood (pediatric)


Container

Green-top (sodium heparin) tube; pediatric Vacutainer® is optimal


Collection

Transport to the testing lab at room temperature; use a cool pack or LabCorp transport kit. Do not allow sample to freeze.


Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature.


Causes for Rejection

Broken or dirty slides; excessive cellular debris or stained slides; decalcified bone cores; frozen specimen; no tumor submitted

Confirmation/identification of cancer-related alterations (for lung and brain cancer)


Limitations

This test was developed, and its performance characteristics determined, by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)


Additional Information

High EGFR copy number or ratio of EGFR:control >2.0 detected by FISH has been shown to correlate with response, progression-free survival, and overall survival after treatment with EGFR TKIs in patients with non−small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).1
