Sanjai Nagendra, MD, MMM

Dr Nagendra is a physician executive with more than fifteen years of clinical and leadership experience. After graduating from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, he completed a combined anatomic and clinical pathology residency and a hematopathology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is a senior hematopathologist with sixteen years of experience interpreting benign and malignant disorders. Dr Nagendra has extensive laboratory management and leadership experience in the hospital setting having served as Medical Director and Chair of the Department of Pathology in large academic centers in the Midwest and Northeast. He has furthered his leadership education by earning a master’s in medical management from the University of Southern California and is a certified physician executive through the American Association for Physician Leadership. He is also a Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt and has led many quality improvement projects.  

Dr Nagendra is the CLIA Medical Director of the Center for Esoteric Testing, Atlantic Division Regional Laboratory, and ViroMed Laboratory in Burlington, North Carolina and is responsible for the medical direction, clinical consultation, and quality of over one-hundred million tests per year. He is also Co-Discipline Director in Hematology. 

In addition to medicine, Dr Nagendra enjoys traveling, amateur meteorology, and amateur astronomy.
