Dr. Chan earned a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Hong Kong, a juris doctor degree from Concord Law School in Los Angeles, CA, and a master of business administration degree in quality management from Loyola University New Orleans. He completed a clinical genetics fellowship at Columbia University in New York and a post-doctoral fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY.
Dr. Chan is certified in clinical molecular genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics, and molecular diagnostics by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. He is certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologists in laboratory management, molecular biology and microbiology; and he is also certified by the American Society of Quality as a quality auditor and quality manager. He continues to hold an active California law license and USPTO patent attorney license. Dr. Chan also holds memberships in the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, the American College of Clinical Chemistry, the American Association of Clinical Chemistry and the American Society of Quality.
Dr. Chan has authored a number of book chapters; and more than 20 articles and abstracts for peer-reviewed journals. He was a past director for American Board of Clinical Chemistry and was a Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) committee member, helping to revise Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) guidelines. In addition to his role as a discipline director for molecular oncology at Labcorp, his other areas of specialty include clinical trials/diagnostics, inherited diseases, infectious disease immunology, molecular infectious disease and routine microbiology.
