Dr. Laura Hertwig joined Labcorp Drug Development in 2020 as technical lead of the operational flow cytometry team. Quickly promoted to senior operations technical lead, she functioned as subject matter expert (SME) for the transfers of clinical flow cytometry assays to the testing laboratory, as well as instrument SME, and has contributed to process improvements at the operational bench. In 2021, Laura transitioned to a position as staff scientist in flow cytometry. In her current role, she is actively working on the development and validation of high-parameter flow cytometry panels; the validation, standardization and troubleshooting of clinical flow cytometers; and providing scientific support to the company’s clients, the operational team and data analysis unit.
Laura completed her PhD in neuroimmunology at Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany) and completed her postdoctorate studies in natural killer cell biology in health and during chronic liver disorders at the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden). During her postdoctoral studies, she was a member of the flow cytometry and cell sorter core unit at CIM acquiring expert technical knowledge in instrumentation, reagents and software platforms as well as workflow development, optimization and implementation of flow cytometry and cell sorting applications. In addition, Laura was part of the Karolinska KI/K COVID-19 Immune Atlas, an initiative to provide a comprehensive overview of the human immune response in COVID-19 disease.
