Expected Turnaround Time

3 - 5 days

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Formalin-fixed paraffin block or fresh tissue (acceptable at additional charge)

Volume

Five slides (4- to 5-micron thick sections)

Minimum Volume

Three slides (4- to 5-micron thick sections)

Container

Green-top (sodium heparin) tube; pediatric Vacutainer® is optimal

Collection

Transport to the testing lab at room temperature; if fresh tumor specimen, sample must arrive in the laboratory within 72 hours of collection.

Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature.

Causes for Rejection

Improper embedded prep; poor fixation <6 hours and >72 hours; decalcified tissue; broken or dirty slides; absence of tumor or quantity not sufficient for analysis.

Confirmation/identification of cancer-related alterations (associated with oligoglioma)

Methodology

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue (4-micron to 5-micron sections); H&E for pathology review.
