Brian Caveney, M.D. has served as Executive Vice President and President, Early Development Research Laboratories and Chief Medical and Scientific Officer at Labcorp since 2023.

In his current role, Brian leads all early development research laboratories globally and oversees all medical and scientific affairs, oncology, cell and gene therapy, and quality for Labcorp.

Since joining Labcorp in 2017, Brian has been instrumental in accelerating growth in the company’s diagnostics business and advancing its medical and scientific strategy. Under his leadership, the company has advanced diagnostic testing services, introduced new products across key therapeutic areas, and expanded its hospital strategy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Brian led efforts to expand the accessibility of PCR testing, used his expertise to help bring understanding about testing and treatment options to the public, and drove advancements to the way the company works with the broader healthcare industry.

Before joining Labcorp in 2017, Brian was the Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. In addition to various roles in the healthcare division of the core health plan, Brian also served as Chief Clinical Officer of Mosaic Health Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Blue Cross NC providing strategic investment services in diversified health solutions businesses. Previously, he was a practicing physician and assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center.

Brian serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Healthcare Quality Alliance. He holds a Doctor of Medicine from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, a Juris Doctorate from the West Virginia University College of Law, and a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center and is board certified in preventive medicine, with a specialty in occupational and environmental medicine.
